Anayiah Howard
(she/her)
Pre-licensed Counselor
Hello, my name is Anayiah Howard (pronounced Ah-nay-yah), and I am excited to be a part of the Canfield Counseling team. I have a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies and Human Development, with a minor in Childhood Development and Psychology. I am currently finishing my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis on childhood/adolescent disorders. I have been working with autistic children of all backgrounds of culture, race, and gender for 5 years, helping them become independent learners.
I look forward to working with children, adolescent, and adult populations. I use a variety of therapeutic methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, play therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and person-centered therapy. My approach to counseling is both complex and sensible as I believe it to be a collaborative experience between the counselor and the client. I emphasize creating a space that allows clients to be themselves while simultaneously guiding them toward setting realistic goals, meeting objectives, increasing their personal awareness, and helping them realize their strengths/limitations to achieve self-acceptance. My ultimate goal is to guide clients in successfully resolving their own conflicts, challenging irrational thoughts, discovering their motivation for change, and fostering a greater sense of self through a non-judgmental relationship. As a pre-licensed counselor, I am receiving direct supervision from AZBBHE approved supervisors, Taylor Oberhelman-McLeod, M.A., LPC and Diana Canfield, M.S., LPC.
